a synthetic nuclease-stabilized ribozyme that binds to VEGF receptor subtype Flt-1 mRNA and thus acts as highly specific inhibitor of angiogenesis. The compound also acts as a pronounced anti-tumor effect in animal models (Weng and Usman, 2001).
Angiozyme is being referred to also as RPI.4610.
Angiozyme selectively down-regulates the VEGFR1 receptor through targeted cleavage of VEGFR1 mRNA (Pavco et al, 2000). Disruption of VEGFR1 by Angiozyme rhas been shown to be antimetastatic for a xenograft model of human colorectal cancer, Lewis lung carcinoma model, and the mouse 4T1 tumor model (Pavco et al, 2000; Parry et al, 1999).
