[ARE]
[AU-rich elements]; also abbr. AURE; adenylate uridylate-rich elements] AREs are sequence elements of 50-150 nucleotides that are rich in adenosine and uridine bases. The AU-rich element core is a pentanucleotide sequence element, referred to also as mRNA decay element. This regulatory RNA sequence consists of one or more AUUUA tandem repetitions embedded in a uracil-rich region found in the 3' untranslated regions of a variety of mRNAs. Depending on sequences involved and modes of degradation imposed by these elements, AU-rich elements have been classified as Class I AREs (1-3 scattered AUUUA motifs), Class II AREs (multiple overlapping AUUUA motifs), and Class III AREs
