[Activin receptor-like kinase 4] The receptor is a member of the ALK family of receptors.
The receptor has been cloned by Xu et al (1994) who named it SKR2 [Ser/Thr kinase receptor-2]. ALK4 is the type IB receptor for Activins and is being referred to also as ActRIB. The approved gene symbol is ACVR1B [activin A receptor type IB]. Andersson et al (2006) have reported that GDF11 [growth/differentiation factor-11] (BMP11) predominantly uses ALK4 and ALK5 as receptors.
