3B6-IL1
This factor is produced by an Epstein-Barr virus-positive B-lymphoblastoid cell line (721 LCL; subclone 3B6) (Rimsky et al, 1986). The cells also produce IL1-alpha (Bertoglio et al, 1989). 3B6-IL1 was believed originally to be identical with IL1 and to be used by the 3B6 cells as an autocrine growth factor.
It has been shown now that the IL1-like factor produced by 3B6 cells is identical with ADF (adult T-cell leukemia-derived factor) and hence with Thioredoxin and that contamination by IL1-alpha was responsible for the discrepancies (Wakasugi et al, 1990; Wollman et al, 1988).
