The approved gene symbol for this protein is CD244. 2B4, called also NKR2B4 [natural killer cell receptor 2B4, NK-cell receptor 2B4] has been identified originally on mouse NK-cells and subsets of T-cells mediating non-MHC restricted cell killing (Boles et al, 2001; Mathew et al, 1993; Garni-Wagner et al, 1993; Schumachers et al, 1995). 2B4 is expressed early in NK-cell development, before the expression of other markers specific for NK-cells such as NK1.1 and Ly49 family members, suggesting a vital role in NK-cell development and function (Sivakumar et al, 1998; Sivori et al, 2002).
