[vitamin A-storing cell]
This cell type, which stores lipid droplets containing vitamin A has been described in mouse pancreas (Watari et al (1982). Subsequently, this cell type has been identified also in healthy rats and humans (Ikejiri, 1990). The term may refer to Pancreatic stellate cells. Note that this term may refer also to hepatic stellate cells (formerly: vitamin A-rich cells) and other lipid droplet-containing stellate cells found, for example in lung, kidney, and intestine (Nagy et al, 1997).
