abbr. vMIP-3. Also: vCCL3 [viral CCL3]. This protein is encoded by the open reading frame K4.1 in the genome of KSHV (KSHV K4.1 protein [HHV-8 K4.1 protein]) (see also: Virokine). The protein is distantly related to human chemokines. The protein is expressed in Kaposi sarcomas and stimulates angiogenesis in the chicken chorioallantoic membrane assay.
