[van Gehuchten cell]
A type of neuron with short axons found in the olfactory bulb. The cells differentiate from anterior subependymal cells (Takei et al, 2002).
These neuronal cells have been shown to express VIP (Crespo et al, 2002; Sanides-Kohlrausch and Wahle, 1990) and peptide histidine-isoleucine immunoreactivity (Sanides-Kohlrausch and Wahle, 1990). The cells also express a variety of calcium binding proteins (Brinon et al, 1999) such as Calbindin D-28K and NADPH-diaphorase (Alonso et al, 1993), parvalbumin (Kosaka et al, 1994, Toida et al, 1996), neurocalcin (Porteros et al, 1996), calretinin (Brinon et al, 1997).
