[unpaired-like protein 3] abbr. upd3. Unpaired 3, the product of the CG15062 gene, is one of the three cytokines of Drosophila melanogaster that activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway (Agaisse et al, 2003). Unpaired 3 activates the receptor Domeless, the unique receptor of the JAK-STAT pathway in Drosophila, an ortholog of gp130, the common signal transducer of all four-helix bundle IL6 family cytokines (Brown et al, 2001).
Oldefest et al (2013) have reported that Unpaired 3, like human IL6, is a monomeric alpha-helical cytokine
