abbr. Upd2. Unpaired 2 is a Drosophila melanogaster protein that activates the JAK-STAT pathway (Gilbert et al, 2005). It is encoded by the CG5988 gene. Unpaired 2 is expressed in a pattern essentially identical to that of unpaired. Both proteins show a mutual semi-redundancy that can be visualised in multiple tissues known to require JAK-STAT signaling, but unpaired 2 is secreted whereas unpaired is associated primarily with the extracellular matrix (Hombría et al, 2005).
