abbr. TEMs. This subpopulation of polarised macrophages is found in close association with trophoblasts and responds to secreted factors from trophoblasts (Aldo et al, 2014). They may be the same cell type as collectively referred to as decidual macrophages in the literature (or subtypes thereof). Zhang YH et al (2020) have reported that soluble PDL1 secreted by trophoblast cells in response to IFN-beta and present in the blood of pregnant women, is responsible for the polarisation of this macrophage subtype.
