abbr. TRF (a term with multiple meanings). This factor of approx. 1.3 kDa is found in the conditioned medium of non-transformed rat fibroblasts (Yang et al, 1995). Transformation-restoring factor appears to be involved in anchorage-independent cell growth of transformed rodent fibroblasts as it specifically corrects a defect in two mutant rat cell lines derived from fibroblasts characterized by a failure to form colonies in soft agar in a colony formation assay when infected with a retrovirus expressing v-H-ras.
