[testicular peritubular cell]
Also: testicular peritubular myoid cells, myoid peritubular cells, testicular myoid cells. This cell type is found in the wall of the seminiferous tubules in the adult testis (Davidoff et al, 1990; Maekawa et al, 1996). In man, these peritubular cells form several layers of elongated, very thin, spindle-shaped cells with pronounced extracellular matrix, whereas there is only a single cell layer and negligible extracellular matrix in rodents. Testicular peritubular cells express cytoskeletal markers of true smooth muscle cells (alpha-isoactin and smooth muscle myosin) and markers of connective tissue cells
