[sweat gland clear cell, clear cell of the sweat gland;clear cells of sweat glands]
This cell type, identifiable by conventional microscopy (Munger, 1961), is found in the secretory coils of eccrine sweat glands together with dark cells and myoepithelial cells that are thought to provide mechanical support and form a major niche for sweat gland stem cells and progenitor cells. All three cell types are derived from the embryonic ectoderm. sweat gland clear cells are the major secretory cell type in secretory coils (for overview see: Cui and Schlessinger, 2015).
