abbr. SRP. This peptide with the sequence HGIVVGTCPLGYTRRGGFCFQDDDY has been identified by Yamaguchi et al (2012) in the common cutworm, Spodoptera litura. Stress-responsive peptide is a cytokine found in the hemolymph of S. litura larvae and changes the phenotype of hemocytes from non-adhesive to adhesive in vitro. Injection of the active peptide reduces feeding activities and delays larval growth. Enhanced gene expression is observed in larvae also under severe stress conditions (abdominal ligature, proleg cutting, mechanical vibration, low temperature, and heat shock at 45°C), is maintained only in seriously growth-retarded larvae but not in recovered larvae.
