This assay (also: spheroid forming assay) is based on the evaluation of floating non-adherent floating multicellular cell aggregates obtained in suspension culture or cultures under non-adhesive conditions (referred to frequently as spheres or spheroids, or 3D spheroids). The culture systems are being referred to also as ultra-low attachment cell cultures or Non-adherent three-dimensional cell cultures.
