This cell type has been described by Kajita et al (2013). These cells constitute a population of adipocytes that consist of small sized cells (less than 20 μm in diameter) expressing adipocyte markers, such as adiponectin and PPARgamma, but not possessing large lipid droplets. These cells show marked ability to incorporate BrdU. The cells are observed in the stromal vascular fraction, are morphologically different from mature adipocytes, and are regarded by the authors as committed progenitor cells
