A databank designation for Sialostatin L2 is Salivary cystatin-L2. Sialostatin L2 is a secreted salivary cystatin from the tick Ixodes scapularis closely related to Sialostatin L It inhibits cathepsin L and some other members of the cathepsin family (Kotsyfakis et al, 2007). Kotsyfakis et al (2010) have reported that sialostatin L2 - but not sialostatin L - facilitates the growth of Borrelia burgdorferi in murine skin.
