[shepherd cell]
(Hirtenzellen in German) This cell type morphology has been described by Díaz-Carballo et al (2014) as a very rare cell type in Jurkat cells and associated with resistance to cytostatic agents such as etoposide. They are pear-shaped cells capable of sprouting a single, highly mobile lobopodium many times the size of the cell body that interacts with nearby colonies. The cells are always associated with clusters of smaller cells and appear to be extremely active and show rapid cytoskeletal rearrangements.
