This 9.8 kDa protein (abbr. SV-IV; also: Svs4 [seminal vesicle secretory protein 4]) has been isolated from rat seminal vesicle secretions (Ostrowski et al, 1979). The gene has been cloned (Kandala et al, 1983; D'Ambrosio et al, 1993). The protein is a typical differentiation marker of seminal vesicle epithelial cells. Its expression is controlled by androgens (Ostrowski et al, 1979; Mansson et al, 1981). Among other things, the protein is strongly immunosuppressive, anti-inflammatory, and has procoagulant activities (Metafora et al, 1989). The activities are not species-specific.
