The approved gene symbol is RPS4. Vladimirov SN et al (1996) have characterized ribosomal protein S4 as a structural component of the 40S ribosome (40S ribosomal protein S4). The genes encoding ribosomal protein S4 have been cloned by Fisher et al (1990). RPS4X [X-linked ribosomal protein S4] (also abbr. S4X) on the X chromosome differs from RPS4Y [Y-linked ribosomal protein S4] (also abbr.
