ribosomal protein S30

abbr. and gene symbol: RPS30. Ribosomal protein S30 is a structural component of the 40S subunit of ribosomes (40S ribosomal protein S30) (Kenmochi et al, 1998; Vladimirov et al, 1996). Fragments of this protein have been shown to possess antimicrobial activities and thus may have effects that are independent of its ribosomal function.

One antimicrobial peptide has been identified as ubiquicidin. For a fusion protein containing ribosomal protein S30 sequences see also: Fau protein.

Fernandes and Smith (2002) have shown that an antimicrobial peptide from rainbow trout skin shows 100 % identity with the first 11 residues of a 40S ribosomal peptide from medaka fish and is likely to be the ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
