approved gene symbol: RPS12. This protein is a component of the 40S subunit of ribosomes (40S ribosomal protein S12) (Kenmochi et al, 1998).

The cDNA encoding the human protein has been cloned by Hérault Y et al (1991). The deduced protein (132 amino acids) is 97 % identical to rat RPS12. Pogue-Geile K et al (1991) have reported overexpression in colorectal cancer.
