[resident cell, resident]
This term may refer to parenchymal cells, i.e., the main functional cells of an organ or tissue or, depending upon context, simply refer to any (specificed or unspecified) cell type found at a particular anatomical location (e. g., organ, tissue, site of wound healing, etc).
The term resident cell may refer also to a specific type of cells that has invaded a particular site (tissue-resident cells). Cells of the immune system, for example, are such invading cells. Resident macrophages or phagocytes are found in all organ system and may have distinct names (see also: histiocytes, macrophages).
