pyrenocytes

[pyrenocyte]

This term has been used to refer to a transient population of small nucleated cells with a thin rim of cytoplasm that essentially constitute the extruded nuclei from mammalian erythroblasts that subsequently develop into erythrocytes (McGrath et al, 2008).

Toda et al (2014) have reported that erythroblasts are bound to macrophages via interactions between integrin-alpha-4 / integrin-beta-1 on erythroblasts and VCAM-1 (CD106) on macrophages. Pyrenocytes exhibit a reduced affinity for VCAM-1 that correlates with the presence of inactive integrin-alpha-4 / integrin-beta-1 ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
