prophenins

Prophenins are antimicrobial proteins that belong to a family of antimicrobial proteins known as cathelicidins.

Prophenin-1 (abbr. PF-1) (79 amino acids) has been isolated from porcine leukocytes (Harwig et al, 1995). Prophenin-1 and variants thereof are contained also in surfactant preparations obtained from porcine lungs (Wang et al, 1999). An 80 residue prophenin with an N-terminal pyroglutamic acid residue constitutes the most prominant prophenin variant in surfactant preparations (Wang et al, 1999).

Prophenin contains 42 (53.2 %) proline and 15 (19.0 %) phenylalanine residues. Its N-terminal 60 residues consists of three perfect and three nearly perfect repeats of a decamer, FPPPNFPGPR. Prophenin-1 ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
