approved gene symbol: PROM1. Prominin-1 is the same as prominin, PROML1 [prominin-like-1, prominin (mouse)-like-1] (known also as AC133 antigen). In the nomenclature of CD antigens the designation is CD133.
Prominin (115 kDa, 858 amino acids) has been identified by Weigmann et al (1997), who used a monoclonal antibody raised against mouse neuroepithelium. Prominin is found also in various other epithelia of the mouse embryo. In the adult mouse, prominin is detected in brain ependymal cells
