These cells constitute a population of medium-sized mononuclear cells with plasmacytoid features in the T-cell zones of human lymphoid tissues, and in the thymus and lymph nodes of patients with various inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. They have been shown to express several antigens expressed on myelomonocytes, monocytes, and macrophages but lack markers for B-cells and plasma cells. Other names for this cell type are plasmacytoid monocytes, T-associated plasma cells (Lennert and Remmele, 1958; Facchetti et al, 2003).
