[pigment-dispersing hormone]
these hormones, sometimes collectively referred to as chromatophorotropins, chromatophorotropic hormones, or color-change hormones, or blanching hormones, have been described first in crustaceans. They are involved in light-dark adaptation and regulate reversible colour changes observed in these animals by eliciting the translocation of pigment granules within specialized epithelial cells known as chromatophores. Unlike pigment-concentrating hormones, which concentrate pigment granules, pigment-dispersing hormones act as blanching hormones that cause the dispersion of pigments.
