abbr. FARS or PheRS [Phe-tRNA Synthetase]. This Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase, which plays a critical role in translation by charging tRNAs with the cognate amino acid, is a heterodimeric protein of two alpha and two beta subunits (Rodova et al, 1999). It is being referred to also as Phenylalanine-tRNA ligase or Phenylalanine translase. In the nomenclature of enzymes the synthetase has been given the designation EC6.1.1.20.
The catalytic subunit is encoded by gene FARSA [phenylalanyl-tRNA synthetase subunit alpha], referred to also as FRSA, FARSL [
