This synthetic peptide with the sequence ASTTTNYT (Ala-Ser-Thr-Thr-Thr-Asn-Tyr-Thr) is derived from the HIV1 envelope glycoprotein gp120 (Pert et al, 1986) and corresponds to gp120(185-192). An analog of this peptide is D-Ala-peptide Tamide (DAPTA) (Ruff et al, 2003).
Peptide T is a ligand for the CD4 receptor (Pert et al, 1986). Peptide T and its analog DAPTA have been shown to inhibit the binding of HIV envelope to brain membranes as well as the HIV infection of human T-cells in vitro (Pert et al, 1986; Ruff et al, 1987).
