[oligovillous cell]
This cell type is found in the epidermis of lamprey is characterized by a brush of rigid apical microvilli with long rootlets (Whitear and Lane, 1983) and probably corresponds to solitary chemosensory cells found in fish. It is thought that this cell type is an example of what is generally being referred to as brush cells or tuft cells by morphological criteria (for overview see also: Sbarbati and Osculati, 2005).
