[nuclear receptor-77] nur-77 is a member of a protein family encoding nuclear receptors. One of these, designated Nurr-1, appears to be expressed specifically in the brain (Law et al, 1992). The approved gene symbol is NR4A1 [nuclear receptor subfamily 4 group A member 1; nuclear receptor 4A1]. nur-77 is identical with NAK1 and NGFI-B (see: NGFI). The protein has extensive sequence homology to members of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily (Davis et al, 1991).
