nucleic acid editing

The term RNA editing pertains to the co-transcriptional or post-transcriptional alteration of mRNA and non-coding RNA such as tRNA (for overview see: Jackman and Alfonzo, 2013) and ribosomal RNA (for overview see: Penzo et al, 2016). It is an enzymatic process that changes RNA sequences apart from splicing, 5′ capping, or 3′ extension. One form of RNA editing is called adenosine to inosine editing (A-to-I RNA editing) and involves adenosine deamination. Editing can be site-selective or affect long stretches of duplex RNA with multiple deaminated adenosine residues, a phenomenon known as RNA hyper-editing (Wahlstedt and Öhman, 2011). Within double-stranded RNA the process is catalyzed by a family of RNA editing deaminases ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
