These cells have been described as a murine spleen cell population that lacks T-cell and B-cell cell surface markers (CD3, CD4, CD8, Thy1, B220, class II major histocompatibility complex) and is able to produce IL4 and IL3, but not IL2 and IFN-gamma, in response to the engagement of Fc receptors by IgE, IgG1, IgG2a, and IgG2b (Fc-gamma R2, Fc-epsilon receptor (Ben-Sasson et al, 1990).
