This protein encoded in the genome of myxoma virus probably plays a role in innate immunity. Nerenberg et al (2005) have reported that the protein is a ubiquitin ligase that targets ubiquitin to viral replication factories. The cellular substrates are not known. Homologs in other viruses are N1R [Shope fibroma virus N1R protein], Ectromelia virus p28 protein.
