This is a general and collective term used in the classification of leukocytes. Myelomonocytic cells comprise monocytes and polymorphonuclear leukocytes (granulocytes). Cells of this lineage proliferate and differentiate in bone marrow thoughout life. The term myelomonocytes refers specifically to monocytes developing in the bone marrow. See also: Hematopoiesis.
