mononuclear cell factor

abbr. MCF (a term with multiple meanings); also abbr. MNCF. This factor was described originally as an activity that activates chondrocytes, induces the synthesis of prostaglandin E2 in fibroblasts, promotes the degradation of cartilage tissues by inducing the synthesis of collagenases in fibroblasts and rheumatoid synovial cells, and generally influences the metabolism of the extracelluar matrix. MCF is identical with IL1.
