Monocytoid B-cells belong to the B-cell lineage as demonstrated by the presence of B-cell antigens and the absence of markers characteristic for monoctes and macrophages (Cardoso de Almeida et al, 1984; Stein et al, 1984; Sheibani et al, 1984; Piris et al, 1986). Originally, these cells were called immature sinus histiocytes (Cardoso de Almeida et al, 1984; Stein et al, 1984) or monocytoid cells due to their histological features (abundant pale cytoplasm, indented nuclei with inconspicuous nucleoli, open chromatin) and anatomical location (marginal zones adjacent to the subcapsular and intermediary sinuses (Stansfeld, 1961; Lennert, 1961; Plank et al, 1993).
