This is an operational definition for a particular set of neurons in the premotor area of the brain (Kilner et al, 2009) that discharge both when an individual makes a particular action such as grasping, tearing, manipulating, holding, and when it observes another individual performing the same or a similar action (Keysers C, 2009; Fabbri-Destro M and Rizzolatti G, 2008; Rizzolatti G et al, 1996; Gallese V et al, 1996; Umiltà MA et al, 2001; for reviews see: Ferrari et al, 2009; Heyes, 2010; Iacoboni, 2009; Rizzolatti et al, 2009; Schermer, 2010). Audiovisual mirror neurons code actions independently of whether these actions are performed, heard, or seen. Even the sound of an action in the dark activates these neurons
