abbr. MSF (a term with multiple meanings). This activity of 20-25 kDa was discovered originally in the urine of patients with thrombocytopenia after bone marrow transplantation (Merberg et al, 1993). The protein is found also in serum. It stimulates the growth of pure and mixed colonies of megakaryocytes in bone marrow fibrin cultures (see also: Colony formation assay, BMC).
