marginal zone B-cells

abbr. MZ B-cells. This term (also S-MZ B-cells, splenic marginal zone B-cells), pertains to B-cells embedded in a network of reticular fibroblasts between the white pulp of the speen that also contains other lymphoid cells and macrophages (Kraal, 1992), and the red pulp, which is vascular in nature (Mebius and Kraal, 2005). The cells are found in the marginal zone of the spleen, the inner wall of the subcapsular sinus in lymph nodes, in the crypt epithelium of tonsils, and under the epithelium of Peyer's patches in gut-associated lymphoid tissues (reviewed in Weill et al, 2009).
