mammary enriched chemokine

abbr. MEC (a term with multiple meanings). This factor has been identified as a cDNA encoding a member of the CC-Chemokines. Expression is high in mammary gland tissues but found also in other epithelial-enriched tissues, such as salivary gland, colon, and prostate. Expression appears to be highly reduced or absent in many human breast (Mickanin et al, 2001). Databank citations show that this chemokine is the same as Mucosae-associated epithelial chemokine (CCL27).
