abbr. MAF. This rat membrane protein contains seven putative transmembrane domains. It has a function in the cell activation of microglial cells. The protein is expressed predominantly in microglial cells in the brain, and is upregulated following brain lesion. The protein is associated primarily with late endosomes/lysosomes (Bräuer et al, 2004).
