lymphoid tissue organizer cells

abbr. Lto cells. This term refers to specialized cells that are thought to be precursors for secondary lymphoid organ stromal cells (Mueller and Germain, 2009; Fu and Chaplin, 1999) and are responsible also for the formation of tertiary lymphoid organs in the context of chronic inflammatory diseases (Aloisi F and Pujol-Borrell, 2006; Campbell et al, 2012; Cupedo and Mebius, 2003).

These lymphoid tissue organizer cells have been described to express various molecules such as podoplanin, MadCAM1, ICAM-1 or VCAM-1 (Fletcher et al, 2010, 2011), and following their activation, promote the recruitment of lymphocytes thus organizing the future lymphoid structure. This process involves a positive feedback loop between LTi ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
