[lot cell]
These cells are specialized neurons from the lateral olfactory tract. These neurons are generated from the neocortical neuroepithelium and migrate tangentially down to the ventral edge of the neocortex abutting the ganglionic eminence, on which the future lateral olfactory tract develops (Tomioka et al, 2000). The cells have been identified as glutamatergic excitatory neurons (Hirata et al, 2012). Tomioka et al (2000) have shown that mutant mouse embryos lacking the function of transcription factor Gli3 show disturbances of the migration stream and translocation of lot cells in the dorsal telencephalon.
The movement of lot cells has been shown to be restricted by semaphorin 3F
