abbr. KCP (the approved gene symbol, but a term with multiple meanings). Also: kielin-like protein. An alternative designation is CRIM2 [cysteine-rich BMP regulator-2].
Kielin/chordin-like protein is a secreted protein (1,254 amino acids) that contains 18 cysteine-rich domains. It is expressed at early and late stages in the developing kidney (Lin et al, 2005). Kielin/chordin-like protein shows similarities to mouse Chordin and is most homologous to the Xenopus kielin, a secreted protein that mediates inductive activities of the embryonic midline (Matsui et al, 2000).
