this term refers to an operational classification of certain chemotactic cytokines (see: chemokines) that usually show induced (as opposed to constitutive) expression to high levels in response to inflammatory stimuli such as IL1, TNF-alpha, and LPS. These chemokines play important roles in the development of immune responses by attracting inflammatory cells to sites of inflammation. Examples include IL8, CCL2, CCL3, CCL4, CCL5, CCL11, CXCL10.
