[inflammatory caspase]
The term inflammatory caspase (also: pro-inflammatory caspase) refers to some members of a group of evolutionarily conserved cysteine proteases the cleavage substrate of which contains an aspartate residue (a cysteine aspartase; see: caspases).
Inflammatory caspases include human caspase-1, caspase-4, caspase-5 and caspase-12 and murine caspase-1, caspase-11 and caspase-12.
