in situ end-labeling

abbr. ISEL. Wijsman et al (1993) have described the in situ end-labeling (ISEL) procedure as a staining method for formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections to detect DNA fragmentation as seen in cells undergoing cell death by apoptosis (see also: Hewitson et al, 2000; Zhang and Galileo, 1997). The method also detects cells in which DNA fragmentation has not yet progressed to complete nuclear fragmentation. The technique involves end-labeling of DNA ends (Wood). To achieve this cells are first treated with proteases to permeate the tissue sections. Biotinylated nucleotides are incorporated in situ into DNA breaks by DNA polymerase. The labelled ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
